Event Description:
Ever curious about Dungeons & Dragons? We’ve got you covered! Join Storyteller and Dungeon Master, Tanya Ball, for an evening of collaborative storytelling. Participants will play within a Michif universe inspired by Ball’s Doctoral Research.
Story Introduction:
You are invited to Aunty’s place for Michif New Years Eve in St. Ambroise, MB. It's -40 Degrees with the wind chill, but you can't tell in this tiny house. Adults are on the main floor singing old country tunes and playing La Barouche. The kids are running wild in the basement, getting stuck in fishing nets, like they're massive spider webs. Since St. Ambroise rests at the cross winds, it is a special place where humans and supernatural entities interact on a regular basis. Parties and dances are where we meet monsters, ghosts, aliens, and demons. So, get yer accents out ‘n stretch out dem stories. Yous are gunna see 'ow we do tings in da bush!

Métis Culture is Storytelling: Development of theatre-based knowledge mobilization to share the importance of culture, identity, and community for health and wellbeing

Performance Presentation by: Heather Foulds, Bruce Sinclair, Scott Duffee, Shaunda Kracher, Ethan Gallays.
Reflecting the storytelling culture and traditions of Métis, privileging Métis voices and worldviews, and authentically reflecting the importance of community, culture, gatherings, and storytelling theatre is a natural avenue for sharing knowledge and information from research programs. A research project conducted in partnership with Saskatoon Métis Local 126 identified important aspects of identity, community, land, food, and knowledge sharing as important components of health and well-being for Métis People. Building from these research findings, a partnership with miyotêh performance theatre collective was established to explore the potential to use theatre as an avenue to share research findings with Métis community, and the general public. Over the past year, Métis playwrights, cultural advisors, theatre artists, and community members have developed a theatre production to share these research findings. Together, this research and theatre partnership is exploring explore the acceptability and effectiveness of a theatre-based knowledge mobilization initiative to share research findings.
Following the performance, you will be invited to share your impressions and feedback through an anonymous survey.
